About this great book:
"Parenting with Pets beautifully details the never ending learning opportunities family pets naturally bring into the lives of their children. Parents will appreciate the many examples of challenging life lessons and how our pets can be the most effective teachers with our guidance and interactive dialogue with our children. Parenting with Pets will show you how pets facilitate social interactions, and how children from pet-owning homes have better verbal and nonverbal communication skills than those from non--pet-owning families. Pets can also help teens through awkward adolescence. This book will show you how pets augment the lessons we teach. Although they cannot take a parent's place in raising children, pets can help to remind parents that many of the things we find stressful, such as business meetings, traffic jams, frustrating coworkers, aren't really that important. Animals have a profound effect on human physiology. They slow the heart rate, lower blood pressure, and temper emotions. They remind us to laugh."

Things I loved in the book:
You must check out this book for yourself to learn more! It has such great information in the book!
Things I loved in the book:
1. I enjoyed that it reminded me that animals love unconditionally. No matter what they love you!
2. I love that it listed animals that are easier and harder to take care of. It listed what prices it costs a month to have each different animal. It also listed a set up cost for each animal and listed daily time commitment. I thought this was great information to know! Everyone should see this information before they decide to pick an animal to add to their family!
3. I loved that it emphasized on how animals help children handle things better in their lives. If they have a hard day just being in the animals presence brings up their mood. Animals also can help your child out with homework.
4. I loved that it listed helpful ways to help give your children chores to help take care of their animals.
5. I loved that it had great stories about kid's and their animals!
My honest review:
This book caught my attention right at the beginning of the book! It made me want to continue reading the book. I could not put it down because I was learning so many new things! If you'd like a book full of learning tools then this book is for you! If you are a parent, if you are not a parent, or if you are thinking of getting an animal then this book is for you! I felt like this book was perfect for me because I have animals and I always wondered what would happen when I have kid's with having the animals. This book teaches you parenting skills with kid's and animals! This book had pictures and writings from kid's throughout the book. It was fun to have those on the pages. It also had fun stories to help teach how to do things! I really enjoyed that because it gave me ideas on how to handle animals and the kid's together!
If you love animals and are a parent or love animals and want to be a parent of animals then this is the right book for you! You'll learn so many things!

I have wanted a daushaund since I was about 12, and almost ten years and three kids later, still no puppy! I would love to see what this book recommends for pets with children...maybe it'll help me convince my hubby to get us a weiner dog!!!

The author, Chris, has some undoubted experience!!! I can't imagine working with over 50 dogs a day, and then going home to a family with pets! Dedication! But it def. makes me confident in her skills and recommendations in the book.

ReplyDeleteWe have been thinking about getting a dog..probably a cocker spaniel for our four-year old son (and us too). We are concerned because we also have a 9-month old and plan to have another child at some point. Maybe this book will inspire us to finally get a dog.
