Traditional Chili
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 large onion, diced (about 1 1/2 cups)
1 cup diced green peppers
2 cups chopped celery
2 teaspoon minced garlic
2 pounds ground beef
1 pound ground pork
2 cans (29 oz. each) tomato sauce
1 cup ketchup
2 cups water
2 teaspoons sugar
4 to 6 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cans (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained
Optional
2 teaspoons crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions: Melt butter in large pot. Add onions, green pepper, celery and minced garlic. Saute until tender but not brown. Add ground beef and pork. Stir occassionally until meat is cooked through and no pink remains. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, water, sugar, spices and salt. Mix well.
Simmer at 2 hours. Add kidney beans; heat for 5 minutes. Add cheese on top of your bowl if you'd like.
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 2 hrs.
Makes 12 servings
This recipe is very delicious! This recipe makes a big pan full of chili that will be great for your family! Paul and I made it so we'll have left overs for the week! This recipe is also great for parties since it makes alot! This chili is so great for the cooler weather as well!

ReplyDeleteI love chili in the fall and winter, but is the butter really necessary? I would add a cup on the tomato sauce to the veggies and cook until tender.
